Obama or Romney? The two are, according to polls neck-and-neck, but both will have been looking bankruptcy forward to the unemployment figures that came out today. The percentage went up slightly, from 7.8 to 7.9 percent.
Last month, the unemployment rate Obama gave a welcome boost. The unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent when, for the first time in four years under 8 percent. Obama had just disappointing performance in the first debate with Romney, but this was again seen as a back support. Still, it gave him a comfortable lead over Romney.
In October, the unemployment rate rose again so slightly, to 7.9 percent. There were 171,000 jobs were, compared to 114,000 in september. The percentage of 7.9 is slightly higher than when Obama took office in January 2009, when it stood at 7.8 percent. In the meantime, during Obama's term in the White House, the unemployment rate was always higher than 8 percent, which until last month was lower only broken again. Even Romney supporter Chris Christie, governor bankruptcy of New Jersey, had words of praise for Obama's response to Sandy.
In the last days before the election, the candidates both go off the eight swing states: states where both sides could still fall and thus crucial to who wins. Obama began yesterday in Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado did, and ended the day in Ohio. Romney carried the day campaigning in Virginia.
