World Population Day is celebrated every year on 11 July, on the initiative of the United Nations, after the 1987 world population reached number five billion people. Interestingly, as a five-billionth Earthling officially registered boy Matej Gaspar, born in during the Universiade in Zagreb. The UN as an engine of this marking for years trying acas to draw attention to the problems of the population, the importance of family planning, gender equality, health and care for the elderly and disabled, as well as protecting the environment and natural resources. This year's theme for World Population Day is "Investing in Youth", which make up 28% of the world's population (1.8 billion).
